Our Beliefs
Historic Christianity
As United Methodists, we affirm the historic Christian faith as summarized in the Apostles’ and the Nicene Creeds. Therefore, we share basic beliefs with most Christian denominations and communities. We believe that in Jesus Christ, God took on human flesh and lived among us. Through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, the world can be reconciled to God. read more >

God’s Grace
United Methodists have a unique understanding of God’s grace. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, described God’s grace as threefold: prevenient, justifying and sanctifying. Prevenient grace comes to us before we have any awareness of God. Justifying grace enables us to receive God’s forgiveness; Sanctifying grace gradually transforms us into the people God created us to be.

The Sacraments
We celebrate two sacraments at CUMC: baptism and holy communion. In baptism, we acknowledge the grace of God, confess our sin, accept membership in the family of Christ, and vow to trust in and serve Jesus Christ as our Lord. In holy communion we retell the story of Christ’s passion, and receive the benefits of Christ’s death and resurrection in a tangible way. read more >

Christ-centered and Biblically Rooted
We at CUMC hold to a traditional understanding of the Christian faith. We seek to be a church rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is witnessed to in the Bible, celebrated in our worship and sacraments and reflected in our lives. These beliefs are found in the Doctrinal Standards of the United Methodist Church. read more >
